Brand History
The KTM Story
KTM's roots go back to a metalworking business founded by Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighofen, Austria, in 1934, with motorcycle production beginning in the early 1950s. After bankruptcy in 1991 the motorcycle business was rebuilt as KTM AG, growing into Europe's largest motorcycle maker on the strength of its 'Ready to Race' off-road and street machines, a record run of Dakar Rally victories, and the X-Bow lightweight sports car. In late 2024 the company entered a severe financial crisis and insolvency restructuring, after which partner Bajaj Auto moved to take control.
