Brand History

The Setra Story

Setra was established as a bus brand in 1951 by German coachbuilder Kässbohrer, its name derived from "selbsttragend" (self-supporting), reflecting its pioneering integral bus construction without a separate chassis. Setra coaches became a benchmark for European long-distance travel, and the brand passed to Mercedes-Benz's parent in 1995 when Daimler acquired Kässbohrer's bus operations.
