Brand History
The Singer Story
Singer began in 1874 as a Coventry bicycle manufacturer founded by George Singer and moved into car production in the early twentieth century. Its small cars, notably the Singer Nine of the 1930s, achieved sporting success including class performances at Le Mans, and the company was for a time one of Britain's larger carmakers. Declining fortunes led to acquisition by the Rootes Group in 1956, after which Singers became badge-engineered variants of Hillman models.
