Brand History
The SSC Story
SSC (originally Shelby SuperCars, unrelated to Carroll Shelby) was founded by Jerod Shelby in 1998 in Washington State to build American hypercars. Its Ultimate Aero TT set a Guinness-recognized production car speed record in 2007 at over 256 mph, briefly dethroning the Bugatti Veyron. The company later developed the Tuatara, a 1,750-horsepower hypercar; a widely publicized 2020 speed-record claim for the Tuatara was retracted after scrutiny, and the car later set verified runs above 280 mph.
