Origins
Togg — the Turkish national automobile initiative backed by an industrial consortium and considerable state will — delivered its first product in 2022: the T10X, a battery-electric compact SUV designed with Pininfarina input, built at a new Gemlik plant, and launched with President Erdoğan personally taking early delivery. Domestic battery ventures, a homegrown digital ecosystem and export ambitions framed the project as industrial sovereignty; waiting lists at home validated the appeal. Skeptics noted the geopolitical theatre; the car itself proved competent and contemporary. As with Iran's Samand or Vietnam's VinFast, the T10X's engineering matters less than its existence — a nation purchasing a seat at the electric era's table, and building the chair itself.
