Brand History

The BAIC Motor Story

BAIC traces its roots to 1958, when the Beijing Automobile Works began producing vehicles for the Chinese state, including the long-running BJ212 off-roader. The state-owned group grew into one of China's largest automakers, forming major joint ventures with Hyundai (Beijing Hyundai, 2002) and Mercedes-Benz (Beijing Benz, 2005). BAIC has also pushed into electric vehicles through its BJEV division and the premium Arcfox brand.

Current Lineup

BAIC remains a major state-owned automaker, selling vehicles under the Beijing and Arcfox brands alongside its Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz joint ventures, and it holds a stake in Daimler/Mercedes-Benz Group.
