Brand History
The Byton Story
Byton was founded in 2017 in Nanjing, China, by former BMW and Nissan executives including Carsten Breitfeld and Daniel Kirchert, with backing from investors including FAW and CATL. The startup drew wide attention with the M-Byte electric SUV and its huge full-width dashboard display, but it never began customer deliveries. Operations were suspended in 2020 amid funding problems worsened by the pandemic.
Current Lineup
Byton effectively collapsed, entering bankruptcy proceedings in 2023 without ever bringing the M-Byte to market.
