Brand History

The DeSoto Story

DeSoto was launched by the Chrysler Corporation in 1928 as a mid-priced brand slotted between Plymouth/Dodge and Chrysler. It sold strongly in its early decades and was known in the 1950s for Hemi V8 power and flamboyant tailfin styling. Squeezed by overlapping Chrysler brands and a weakening market position, DeSoto was discontinued in late 1960, with the final cars sold as 1961 models.
