Brand History
The Hawtai Story
Hawtai (also romanised as Huatai) Motor was founded in 2000 and initially built its business assembling Hyundai-derived SUVs such as the Terracan and Santa Fe under licence for the Chinese market. It later developed its own range of SUVs and sedans and invested in diesel engine and automatic transmission production. The company has struggled commercially in recent years amid intense competition in the Chinese market.
