Brand History

The IH Story

IH, or International Harvester, was formed in 1902 through the merger of the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company and Deering Harvester Company, uniting the pioneers of the mechanical reaper. For much of the 20th century it was America's dominant maker of farm equipment while also building trucks and pioneering SUVs such as the Scout and Travelall. Financial crisis in the early 1980s forced the sale of the agricultural business to Tenneco in 1985, where it merged into Case IH, while the truck operations continued as Navistar International.

Current Lineup

International Harvester no longer exists as a company; its agricultural legacy lives on in the Case IH brand and its truck business in International Motors.
