The Nikola Story
Nikola Corporation was founded in 2014 by Trevor Milton to develop battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell semi trucks, taking its name, like Tesla, from inventor Nikola Tesla. The company listed publicly in 2020 amid great hype, but short-seller allegations of exaggerated claims led to Milton's departure and his later conviction for fraud. Nikola did bring the battery-electric and fuel-cell Tre trucks into low-volume production in Coolidge, Arizona.
