Brand History
The NIO Story
NIO was founded in 2014 by entrepreneur William Li (Li Bin) as a premium Chinese electric vehicle maker, initially gaining attention through Formula E racing and the EP9 electric supercar. Its road cars, beginning with the ES8 SUV in 2018, are distinguished by a large battery-swap station network that lets owners exchange depleted packs in minutes. The company listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 2018 and has expanded into Europe.
