Brand History
The Panhard Story
Panhard et Levassor, established in Paris in 1887 by René Panhard and Émile Levassor, was one of the world's very first automobile manufacturers, selling cars in the early 1890s. It pioneered the 'Système Panhard' layout of a front engine driving the rear wheels, which became the template for the industry. After World War II it built innovative lightweight cars such as the Dyna and 24 series before Citroën absorbed the company and ended car production in 1967.

The Panhard name survived on French military light vehicles for decades, with the defense business eventually folded into what became Arquus.
