Brand History
The Studebaker Story
Studebaker was founded in 1852 in South Bend, Indiana, by the Studebaker brothers as a blacksmith and wagon-building business, eventually becoming one of the world's largest wagon manufacturers before moving into automobiles in the early 1900s. The company earned a reputation for styling innovation, notably the 1947 Starlight coupe, the 1953 Raymond Loewy-influenced Starliner, and the 1963 Avanti. Chronic financial problems led Studebaker to close its South Bend plant in 1963 and end all car production at its Hamilton, Ontario factory in 1966.
