Brand History

The Toyota Crown Story

The Toyota Crown, launched in 1955, is Toyota's longest-running passenger car nameplate and was the company's first mass-produced car developed entirely in-house. For decades it served as Japan's definitive executive sedan, widely used as company cars, taxis, and police vehicles, and it was also the first Toyota exported to the United States in 1958. In 2022 the sixteenth generation reinvented the Crown as a family of models, including a lifted crossover-sedan sold globally, returning the name to markets such as North America after decades of absence.
