Origins

Jiangling Motors — JMC, Ford's long-standing commercial partner in Nanchang — launched the Yuhu in 2012 to modernise its pickup line: a full-size-styled truck drawing visibly on international design norms, with the company's proven diesel fours and body-on-frame construction serving China's contractors and the export markets where JMC trucks had quietly spread. The domestic pickup segment then laboured under urban entry restrictions; the Yuhu positioned JMC for the liberalisation and lifestyle shift that would later transform it. Ford lineage supplied credibility, cost discipline supplied the price. The Yuhu's role was foundational: the platform-and-nameplate on which JMC built toward the segment's boom, one relaxed regulation at a time. Patience, in the Chinese pickup market, turned out to be a product feature.
