Origins

Where the previous 3 Wheeler pastiched the 1930s, the Super 3 of 2022 looks like an aircraft component. Morgan moved the engine inside the body, a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre Ford three-cylinder, water-cooled, driving the single rear wheel through a five-speed manual and a belt, and built the car around a bonded aluminium monocoque instead of a tubular frame.

Design and engineering

The distinctive feature is the flat side panels ahead of the doors, which carry mounting points on an exposed rail so owners can bolt on luggage, spare fuel or heat shields. It is a deliberately configurable machine, sold on the idea of long-distance touring rather than short blasts around the lanes.

In production

It makes less noise than the S&S V-twin car and covers ground rather more quickly. Morgan's own account is that the Super 3 attracts buyers who would never have considered a Morgan at all, which for a company selling a few hundred cars a year is the entire point.
