Origins
The engine came first, and it came from a government tender. Guzzi developed a large air-cooled 90-degree V-twin, mounted with the crankshaft running along the frame and the cylinders sticking out into the airflow, for an Italian military and police requirement in the early 1960s. Put into a road bike as the V7 in 1967, it gave the company an identity it has never given up.
