Origins
Omoda launched in 2022 as Chery's export-native brand — designed for international markets from inception rather than adapted after — and the C5 crossover executed the strategy: fashion-forward styling, petrol and electric versions, competitive warranties and pricing tuned per market, rolled out across Russia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Western Europe including UK right-hand drive. Volumes scaled with Chery's logistics muscle, making Omoda among the fastest-growing new badges in multiple markets. The C5's blandly confident competence was the point: a global car built to no single country's nostalgia. It spearheaded the second Chinese export wave — not cheap curiosities but mainstream products, arriving fully formed. The showroom theatrics were skipped; the market share was not.
