Origins
The Gloria began in 1959 as the flagship of Prince Motor — Japan's engineering-proudest independent, builder of the Skyline — a formal six-window saloon serving the imperial household and executive fleets with the company's characteristic mechanical ambition; the 1963 Super 6 brought Japan's first production overhead-cam six. When Nissan absorbed Prince in 1966, the Gloria survived the merger as the Nissan Gloria, twinned progressively with the Cedric until the pair became badge siblings for three further decades, retiring together in 2004. The Prince years are the distinguished part: a small company outbuilding the giants, supplying royalty, and bequeathing Nissan both a luxury nameplate and — through Prince's engineers — the Skyline GT-R bloodline that followed.
