Brand History

The Prince Story

Prince Motor Company grew out of Tama, a postwar Japanese electric car maker, and adopted the Prince name in 1952 in honor of Crown Prince Akihito. Backed by the former Nakajima aircraft engineering base of Fuji Precision Industries, it built technically advanced cars including the original Skyline and Gloria, and campaigned successfully in early Japanese motor racing. In 1966 Prince merged into Nissan.

Current Lineup

The company disappeared as a separate marque after the 1966 Nissan merger, but its Skyline and Gloria nameplates lived on for decades under Nissan.
