The Alpina Story

Alpina was founded in 1965 by Burkard Bovensiepen in Buchloe, Germany, initially producing carburetor and tuning kits for BMWs before building complete, subtly enhanced luxury-performance cars. Recognized as a manufacturer in its own right by the German authorities in 1983, Alpina became known for models such as the B-series saloons that blended high performance with long-distance comfort. In 2022 BMW agreed to acquire the Alpina brand, ending decades of close but independent cooperation.

1. 1965–present

   Alpina's heraldic shield has remained essentially unchanged since the 1960s: split into two fields showing a twin-choke carburetor with intake trumpets on one side and a crankshaft on the other, symbols of the company's original tuning trade.
