Brand History

The AMC Story

American Motors Corporation was formed in 1954 by the merger of Nash-Kelvinator and Hudson, at the time the largest corporate merger in U.S. history. AMC carved out a niche against the Big Three with compact Ramblers, distinctive models like the Javelin, AMX, Gremlin, and Pacer, and its shrewd purchase of Jeep in 1970. After Renault took a major stake in the late 1970s, the struggling company was ultimately acquired by Chrysler in 1987, which retired the AMC name.
