The Austin Story

The Austin Motor Company was founded in 1905 by Herbert Austin at Longbridge, near Birmingham, and became one of Britain's largest carmakers. The tiny Austin Seven of 1922 put much of Britain on wheels and was license-built around the world, while the 1952 merger with Morris created the British Motor Corporation, under which Austin badges appeared on cars like the Mini and 1100. The name passed through British Leyland and was finally retired in the late 1980s.
