Brand History

The Berliet Story

Berliet was founded in Lyon in 1899 by Marius Berliet, becoming one of France's pioneering automobile manufacturers before shifting its focus to commercial vehicles. The company grew into a leading European truck and bus maker, known for rugged heavy trucks such as the giant T100 desert truck of the 1950s. Berliet was acquired by Citroën in 1967 and then passed to Renault in 1974.
