Brand History

The Chrysler Story

Walter P. Chrysler founded the Chrysler Corporation in 1925 out of the remains of the Maxwell Motor Company, quickly building a reputation for advanced engineering. The company pioneered features such as the streamlined Airflow of 1934, the Hemi V8 of the 1950s, and effectively created the minivan segment in 1984. After a troubled 1998 merger with Daimler-Benz and a 2009 bankruptcy, Chrysler came under Fiat control, and the combined group became part of Stellantis in 2021.

  1. 1925–1962

Chrysler's original badge was a ribbon-and-wax-seal design, signaling craftsmanship and quality, used in various forms for decades.

  2. 1962–1990s

The Pentastar, a five-pointed star in a pentagon, was adopted in 1962 as a clean corporate symbol and became one of the most recognizable emblems in the American industry.

  3. 1998–present

Chrysler revived winged badges referencing its early years, refining the wings several times; the current flat wing-and-wordmark identity was introduced under Stellantis in 2021.
