Brand History
The De Tomaso Story
De Tomaso was founded in Modena in 1959 by Argentine racing driver Alejandro de Tomaso. After early racing cars and the Vallelunga and Mangusta road cars, the company found real commercial success with the Pantera of 1971, a Ford V8-powered supercar sold in the United States through Lincoln-Mercury dealers. De Tomaso also controlled Maserati, Innocenti, and motorcycle firms at various points; the founder's death in 2003 was followed by years of dormancy until new owners revived the brand with the P72 hypercar, unveiled in 2019.
