Brand History
The Edsel Story
Edsel was launched by Ford in September 1957 as a new mid-priced brand for the 1958 model year, named after Henry Ford's son Edsel Ford. Despite an enormous marketing buildup, the cars landed in a recession with polarizing styling, notably the vertical 'horse-collar' grille, and pricing that overlapped Ford's own models. Sales fell far short of projections, and Ford killed the brand in November 1959 after losses estimated in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Current Lineup
Edsel was discontinued in late 1959 after barely two years, and its name became a byword for a commercial flop.
