Brand History
The Freightliner Story
Freightliner grew out of Consolidated Freightways, the American trucking company founded in 1929 by Leland James, who began building his own lightweight cab-over trucks in the early 1940s when existing manufacturers would not. Freightliner trucks were long distributed through White before the company became independent of its trucking parent, and in 1981 it was acquired by Daimler-Benz.
