Brand History
The GAZ Story
GAZ, the Gorky Automobile Plant in Nizhny Novgorod, was founded in 1932 with technical assistance from Ford, initially building licensed Ford-based cars and trucks. It became one of the Soviet Union's most important automakers, producing the wartime GAZ-AA truck, the Pobeda, the long-running Volga saloon and the Chaika limousine. Its leaping deer emblem references the coat of arms of Nizhny Novgorod.
