Brand History
The Innocenti Story
Innocenti was founded in Milan in 1920 by Ferdinando Innocenti, initially as a steel tubing business, and won worldwide fame after 1947 with the Lambretta scooter. From the early 1960s it assembled British Motor Corporation designs under licence, including well-regarded Italian versions of the Mini. British Leyland bought the car business in 1972, and after its collapse Alejandro de Tomaso took over, producing the Bertone-styled Innocenti Mini hatchback, later powered by Daihatsu engines; Fiat acquired the company in 1990 and retired the brand in the 1990s.
