Brand History
The Melkus Story
Melkus was founded in 1959 by racing driver Heinz Melkus in Dresden, East Germany, where it built formula racing cars for Eastern Bloc competition. Its most famous product was the RS 1000 of 1969, a gullwing-doored sports coupe based on Wartburg mechanicals and one of the very few sports cars ever produced in the GDR. A revival launched the RS 2000 in 2009, but the reborn company became insolvent in 2012.
