Brand History
The Oltcit Story
Oltcit was created in 1976 as a joint venture between the Romanian state and Citroën, building a factory in Craiova in the Oltenia region from which the brand took its name. Production began in the early 1980s with the Oltcit Club, a small hatchback based on a Citroën design also sold in Western Europe as the Citroën Axel. Quality problems and the strained partnership limited its success.
