Brand History

The Piaggio Story

Piaggio was founded in Genoa in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio, initially producing ship fittings and later railway carriages and aircraft. After its factories were devastated in World War II, the company launched the Vespa scooter in 1946, designed by aeronautical engineer Corradino D'Ascanio, which became a global icon of Italian mobility, joined in 1948 by the three-wheeled Ape. The group later acquired the Aprilia and Moto Guzzi motorcycle brands.
