Brand History
The Premier Story
Premier Automobiles Limited was founded in 1944 in Bombay by the Walchand Hirachand industrial group, becoming one of India's first carmakers. Its most famous product was the Premier Padmini, a licensed Fiat 1100 derivative built from the 1960s to 2000 that became the archetypal Mumbai taxi. Liberalization of the Indian market in the 1990s left the aging lineup uncompetitive.

Current Lineup
After a brief return with the Rio compact SUV in the 2010s, Premier ceased vehicle production and subsequently went into liquidation.
