Brand History
The Renault Samsung Story
Renault Samsung Motors was formed in 2000 when France's Renault acquired the automotive operations of Samsung, which had begun car production in South Korea in the late 1990s with technical assistance from Nissan. From its plant in Busan the company built the SM series of sedans and QM crossovers for the Korean market, many closely related to Renault and Nissan models. The Samsung name was licensed rather than owned, and the partnership ran for over two decades.
