Brand History
The Saab Story
Saab's car division emerged in 1945 from the Swedish aircraft maker Saab AB, and its first production car, the aerodynamic 92, appeared in 1949. The company built a devoted following with unconventional, safety-focused designs and popularized turbocharging in mainstream cars with the 99 Turbo of 1978. General Motors took full control in 2000, but Saab never achieved sustainable volumes and was sold to Spyker in 2010 before declaring bankruptcy in December 2011.

Saab ceased car production with its 2011 bankruptcy; successor NEVS briefly built electric 9-3s but the Saab name is no longer used on cars.
