Brand History

The Volkswagen Story

Volkswagen — 'the people's car' — was founded in 1937 to build Ferdinand Porsche's affordable Beetle. Under British administration after the war, the Beetle became the best-selling single-design car in history at over 21 million units, and the 1974 Golf successfully reinvented the company. The Volkswagen Group grew into one of the world's two largest car groups, owning Audi, Porsche, Škoda, SEAT/Cupra, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ducati.
