Origins

Aptera's teardrop three-wheeler pursues a thesis the industry abandoned: radical efficiency first. Its composite body targets a drag coefficient near 0.13, in-wheel motors and sub-a-tonne mass promise up to 1,000 miles from the largest battery, and roughly 700 watts of integrated solar cells add daily commuting range from sunlight alone — the original company failed in 2011, and the founders revived the idea in 2019 through crowdfunding tens of millions from tens of thousands of reservation holders. Production has been targeted for 2026 from San Diego, with the launch edition's specifications locked and validation vehicles touring publicly.
