Origins

The Benelli Adiva of 2000 answered a question Italian commuters actually asked: why should rain end scooter season? Its folding roof — a genuine convertible top stowing into the tail — made the Adiva Europe's most weather-defiant scooter, developed as Benelli's pragmatic sideline while the storied Pesaro marque relaunched its sporting motorcycles. The concept outlived the partnership, continuing under the separate Adiva brand with Peugeot's rival three-wheelers following the trail. Within Benelli's century of racing glory the Adiva is an eccentric footnote — but a prescient one, anticipating the all-weather urban mobility niche that maxi-scooters and covered three-wheelers later made respectable business. The rain, of course, remained undefeated overall — but the Adiva won more rounds than most.
