Origins

Changfeng — Hunan's military-lineage off-roader specialist, long the licensed builder of Mitsubishi Pajeros as Liebao 'Leopard' — attempted passenger-market breadth with the Acuman around 2011: a crossover-styled entry produced only briefly as the company navigated its absorption into GAC's orbit, which soon redirected the operation entirely. Production spanned barely a year; the nameplate vanished into the restructuring. The Acuman's interest is archaeological: a marker of the era when China's provincial and military-adjacent manufacturers each attempted civilian crossovers before consolidation sorted the industry — most such badges surviving today only in registration databases and the occasional provincial used-car lot, the Acuman among them. The Pajero licence work, meanwhile, remains the company's real monument — still prowling China's mountain provinces.
