Origins
Englon was Geely's British-flavoured sub-brand of the multi-marque era — its name and grille consciously echoing London taxi heritage, which Geely then part-owned — and the SC5-RV of 2011 was its supermini: a compact hatchback with upright chrome-barred styling meant to suggest Anglo dignity at Chinese entry prices. The three-brand strategy (Emgrand, Gleagle, Englon) soon proved dilutive, and Geely folded the marques back together in 2014, retiring Englon's passenger cars while the taxi association migrated toward LEVC. The SC5-RV thus documents a strategic detour: the moment China's most ambitious private automaker believed sub-brands were the route upmarket, before deciding — profitably — that one strong badge beat three thin ones. The chrome grille survives on secondhand lots as a quiet reminder that even Geely once overreached.
