Origins

If the XF was the long-haul flagship, the CF was the truck that turned up at building sites, supermarket depots and fire stations. It sat in the middle of the DAF range as a cab-over design available in a wide spread of axle configurations, from two-axle rigids to heavy multi-axle tippers, with the same PACCAR driveline family as its bigger sibling and gearboxes from ZF, Eaton and Allison depending on the job.

Design and engineering

Its ancestry runs back through the F218 series and, on the British side of the business, the Leyland Constructor, and left-hand-drive cabs came from Eindhoven while right-hand-drive production sat at Leyland. Versatility kept it in production for decades and made it a common sight in municipal and vocational fleets across Europe. The XD replaced it when DAF restructured its range around the new European cab regulations.
