Brand History

The DAF Story

DAF was founded in Eindhoven in 1928 by Hub van Doorne, originally as an engineering and trailer business run with his brother Wim. It entered passenger cars in 1958 with the small DAF 600, notable for the Variomatic, the first mass-produced continuously variable transmission. The car division was sold to Volvo in 1975, becoming the basis of the Volvo 340, while DAF concentrated on commercial vehicles.
