Origins

Garrie Cooper's Elfin Sports Cars of Adelaide became Australia's most prolific racing constructor, and the Mallala of 1963 — named for the South Australian circuit — typified the foundation years: a light, well-mannered sports-racing design built for the national club scene, teaching a generation of Australian drivers their trade at achievable cost. Cooper's cars combined self-taught engineering instinct with meticulous fabrication, and Elfins soon dominated domestic grids across categories. The marque would rise to Formula 5000 and international sports-car success while remaining a family-scale workshop.
