Origins
The MS8 Clubman of 2006 revived Elfin as a road-car maker under new ownership with Holden connections: a modern interpretation of the Lotus Seven idiom around General Motors' 5.7-litre LS1 V8 — 329 horsepower in well under a tonne — styled by Holden's design organisation and built in limited numbers alongside the enclosed MS8 Streamliner. The combination of clubman simplicity and muscle-car displacement was gloriously Australian; performance embarrassed exotica while the badge carried half a century of national racing memory. Production remained boutique before the revival wound down, but the MS8 pair gave the marque a dignified modern coda. For a company born building racers in a Conmurra Avenue shed, ending with a V8 clubman felt entirely correct.
