Origins

Infiniti's family crossover arrived in 2012 badged JX35, and was renamed QX60 barely eighteen months later when the brand reorganised its naming around a single QX prefix for every SUV it sold. Underneath sits Nissan's front-drive platform, shared with the Pathfinder, with all-wheel drive optional rather than standard — a clean break from the truck-based QX4 it nominally replaced.

Design and engineering

The engineering headline was a seat. The second-row bench slides and tilts forward even with a child seat still fitted, which solved a real problem for the three-row buyers Infiniti was chasing and gave salespeople something concrete to demonstrate. The rest of the package was deliberately unaggressive: a smooth V6, a continuously variable transmission tuned for quiet rather than urgency, and a cabin pitched at comfort over sport.

In production

A second generation followed in 2021, dropping the CVT for a conventional nine-speed automatic and adopting a far bolder grille and a much more expensive-looking interior. It remains one of Infiniti's best sellers in North America, which says as much about how far the brand's range has shrunk as it does about the car.
