Origins
The KrAZ-214 of 1956 established Ukraine's heavy-truck city: a three-axle, all-wheel-drive military hauler from the Kremenchuk plant, built to drag artillery, bridging equipment and the Soviet bloc's heaviest loads through terrain that destroyed lesser machines. Derived from Yaroslavl designs transferred with the factory's mission, the 214 and its descendants equipped armies from the Warsaw Pact to the Middle East, their virtues being mass, simplicity and repairability in the field, far from any workshop. The type founded a lineage — through the 255 to today's military KrAZes — that made Kremenchuk synonymous with brute capability, a reputation the plant's later wartime service would renew under fire, building for a defence of its own soil.
