Origins
LIAZ's 100 series of 1974 modernised the Škoda-lineage truck works at Jablonec: a contemporary cab-over family for the ČSSR's freight and the Comecon export web, with turbocharged diesels that kept Czechoslovak haulage competitive through the socialist era's final decades. Dakar racing versions won class respect in the 1980s, an unlikely sporting footnote for a planned-economy hauler. After 1989 the series soldiered through privatisation's turbulence until truck production ended in the early 2000s. The 100 remains the definitive LIAZ — the cab silhouette of Czech motorways for a generation, and the marque's last volume statement before history closed the line. The Dakar class trophies sit oddly beside socialist freight statistics, which is exactly why they're treasured.
