Origins
LiveWire began as Harley-Davidson's boldest internal gamble — the 2019 electric motorcycle that asked whether the bar-and-shield's thunder could translate to silence — and became its own marque in 2021 when Harley spun the operation out, taking it public via SPAC as America's first standalone electric-motorcycle company. The bike itself was excellent: quick, composed, premium-priced, and sold slowly, as every electric motorcycle has. The One and Del Mar followed under the independent banner. LiveWire's significance is the experiment it embodies: heritage's most sound-defined brand quarantining its electric future in a separate name, so that neither could contaminate the other while the market decides the century's question. The question remains open; the quarantine, at least, was executed cleanly.
